My Top Picks for Spring 2011…

After scouring innumerable trend reports and the magazines Harper’s Bazaar, Elle and Vogue, I finally have come up with a comprehensive list of what trends work for me this year. So, the trends I embrace are…

1.       Hyper Bright Color!!!
Enough of those blacks and greys! I welcome the warmth and freshness with an overload of color. Indian skin tone does complement the color palette so well. Besides, no one knows how to work colors better than us Indians, if I may say so myself. Optimistic hues it is for me!

2.       Lace
Lace is the most versatile fabric ever. It can be romantic, classy, chic, flirty, beautiful, – anything you want it to be. This is the best season and time to be seen in it. While they can easily bring the old world charm, I say go out and experiment, the more daring your lace, the better.

3.       Longer Hemlines – the Midis
Though most fashion pundits are swearing by this trend, at five feet two, I shudder at the thought of sporting one. Mid calf length just makes us shorties look, well, shorter. Anyone got suggestions on how to pull the look gracefully?

4.       Pretty Floral Prints
<phew!> Back at safe ground! Fun to experiment with and quite enough to add new dimensions to any style, prints are here to stay (or so I hope!). Can’t wait to add floral prints to my wardrobe! Methinks it is worthwhile to invest in floral printed shirts with clean cuts and team them with block color basic cardigans or light jackets to beat this slight nip in the air while looking über-chic.

5.       Safari Staples
The crisp shirt dresses and sleeveless jackets are amazing for their utilitarian vibe. As this season is also seeing a lot of white color, looking for a shirt dress in white with flared silhouette…

6.       Color Blocking
Quite refreshing after the long dreary winter, this trend, I am in love with.
Psst: Don’t really think I can carry the look easily though. For me, hence, going Indian is the way. Trying color blocking salwar suits for that fresh new look.

7.       Sheer Bliss!!
Love love love that sheer’s back! The soft wonderful fabrics like chiffon and georgette look awesome while their breezy texture keeps you comfortable. Layering carefully is the key for that wonderful sheer experience. Blouses in chiffons are my personal favorites for style and comfort.

That’s my top picks’ list from this season’s trends…

What Skin Type Are You???

An artist can only do good work when he knows the canvas and what tools to use on it. Everyone can become a beauty genius. Knowing what type is your skin, is the foundation.

There are five basic skin types: normal, oily, dry, combination and sensitive. With the market full of products suited to special needs of each skin type, it is vital that you know where you are positioned and use specialized products for that pampered, glowing skin. Using the wrong products can not only stop you from looking the best but also induce or aggravate skin troubles!

So, how do you know what type of skin you have?
Fortunately, there’s been an easy method around for ages. I reproduce it here for your benefit…

“The White Tissue Paper Test”
When you wake up in the morning, take a white tissue, unfold, and gently press on your face. Now observe it. If you are a…

~        Normal Skin Type:
No to slight amount of oil. In addition, no flaky skin residue.

~        Dry Skin Type:
No oil, flaky skin residue and a feeling of tightness, as if your skin is a tad too small for your face.

~        Oily Skin Type:
Oil all over tissue.

~        Combination Skin Type:
Oil in the “T-zone” (Forhead, nose and chin).

~        Sensitive Skin Type:
Similar results to dry skin type. However, this kind of skin is prone to irritation and tends to be more inflamed.

Alternately, to take this test, wash your face with a gentle cleanser, pat dry and then take “The White Tissue Paper Test” after about an hour.

Introduction. And More...

I have been planning to do this blog for quite some time now but kept on running into difficulties like lack of time, other important (unfortunately urgent too) things to do, getting my life into order etc. etc.. (Let's just label it as being lazy and be done with it!) Finally, I am here, overcoming my laziness syndrome.

I am a finance professional but aspire to be in fashion in any form. I am passionate about all things beautiful. Though I am stuck in a mundane boring world of a busy metro in India, I have my own weapons to fight with – an over active imagination, a liberal dose of pixie dust and a zeal to take everything and make it work for me.

Over this blog, I shall try to share my beautiful world (and the magic that goes behind keeping it so, of course!). This blog is not about the best brands or the latest trends only. It’s about working what you have in your favor, simple cheat codes to derive the maximum benefits, and most importantly, staying stylish, always…

I believe being stylish is not only looking good but feeling great too. This blog is my journey from better to best, and I hope I find travelers on the same road.

If you are with me till here, I welcome you aboard. Would love to hear back from you. Good, bad, ugly, whatever, I am just an e-mail away...
